5 Days Mt Meru Climbing

0700hrs: After a heavy breakfast at the hotel, meet with your Trekking guide and porters for a pre trekking briefing and then drive (45mins drive) to Momella entrance gate of Arusha National Park for registration and final packing before the actual walk begin.

At the gate the guests can hire any missing necessary hiking gear before the climb, therefore it’s a place for final checkup prior to start trekking Mt Meru.

Beginning at Momella gate, the path is not especially steep, and meanders through a pleasant landscape but becomes steeper as we approach Miriakamba huts for overnight. In the lower regions we will see elephant, giraffes and herds of cape buffaloes (We will be escorted on the lower part of the mountain by an armed ranger).

Miriakamba hut elevation: 2515m/8250ft above sea level

Approximate slow trekking time: 5hrs

Terrain: Dense rain forest

Option: Ascend a bit further up and back at the camp for acclimatization

Overnight: Miriakamba Huts (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast)

0700hrs: After an early breakfast at the camp the guests will slowly depart to Saddle huts. Along the ridge of the saddle, we have views of Mount Meru Crater and the Ash Tray. After arriving at Saddle Huts, there is an option to hike to the top of Little Mount Meru for superb views and to further aid acclimatization.

Terrain: Giant heather trees and moorland vegetation

Option: Exercises to Little Mount Meru and back at the camp for acclimatization

Overnight: Saddle Huts (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast)

Note: Optional extra night at this camp for acclimatization (Extra USD 225pp). If fit enough we continue to the summit tomorrow.

0700hrs: On this day the guests conquer the summit of Mt Meru (Second highest peak in Tanzania and the fifth highest peak in Africa). After breakfast at the camp we begin our climb to the summit via the trail which is steep to Rhino Point and then Cobra Point. The path continues along the ridge of ash and rock to the summit - Socialist Peak. Here on the clear cloud we enjoy magnificent views of Mt Kilimanjaro, Arusha National park below and the sunrise before returning to Miriakamba Huts for rest, dinner and overnight.

Socialist Peak elevation: 4566m/14980ft above sea level-Destiny

Terrain: Variable steep scree

Option: Photos and rest at the peak a bit

Overnight: Miriakamba Huts (Dinner, Bed and Breakfast)

0700HRS: After breakfast at the camp the guests will further descend down to Momella gate. On arrival at the gate the guests will receive their climbing certificates from park management and then drive to Arusha planet lodge for lunch, day room use, shower and packing.

Depending on flight details the guests will be transferred to Kilimanjaro international airport for their flight back home.

Alternatively, as an extra package the guests may will include a safari tour package or Zanzibar beach for relaxation before returning home.
